Glaxo to make public educational, charitable grants
    The London-based pharmaceutical company announced the decision as members of Congress have been urging pharmaceutical and medical device companies to provide more public information about their grant-giving activities. Glaxo said reports will be updated on a quarterly basis to include grants that are provided to organizations including hospitals, teaching institutions, managed-care companies, professional associations, patient advocacy groups and continuing medical education (CME) companies. In a similar but more dramatic move, Pfizer last month reported that it was eliminating all direct funding for any new physician CME programs provided by medical education and communication companies.
