Bhatt said one of the barriers to the acceptance of AI has been that the word "artificial" is included, which is not a trusted term. She said a better term is "collaborative intelligence": where the data is processed by the AI to speed workflow and complete complex tasks of gathering many points of information and allowing the physician to determine what is important or actionable. Bhatt said the decision is ultimately theirs on how to care for a patient.

The ACC's innovation program includes partnering with vendors to develop AI to assist in specific areas where cardiology has a need to improve care or make care more efficient.
