NYU Grossman School of Medicine researchers used artificial intelligence and wearable activity trackers to improve the monitoring and classification of older adult cardiac rehabilitation patients.

The company hopes to enroll 15 patients to monitor the safety and effectiveness of its new-look transcatheter device for severe tricuspid regurgitation. 

While 96% of first-time test takers passed the ABIM's subspecialty exam in cardiovascular disease in 2018, that number dropped to 86% in 2021 and 2022.

The new device was designed to help clinicians perform valve-in-valve TAVR on certain high-risk patients. One cardiologist familiar with the technology said it could be easily added to any preexisting TAVR workflow. 

"It’s clear to me that urgent intervention is long overdue," one cardiologist said in a statement. 

When Congress passed its latest continuing resolution to avoid a government shutdown, it provided no relief for cardiologists and other physicians impacted by ongoing Medicare reimbursement cuts. The American College of Cardiology responded to this development with yet another plea for change. 

According to the U.S. government, Asante Health System and one of its surgeons knowingly submitted false claims to Medicare, Medicaid and TRICARE for more than six years.
