Cardiologist shares her go-to food for maintaining a healthy heart
Suzanne Steinbaum, MD, literally wrote the book on eating a heart-healthy diet, and now she has revealed a food she eats each and every day: avocados.
Steinbaum, a New York City-based cardiologist and fellow for the American College of Cardiology and American Heart Association, wrote Dr. Suzanne Steinbaum's Heart Book: Every Woman's Guide to a Heart-Healthy Life back in 2014. In a new interview for the health website Well + Good, she talked about her love of avocados, which she typically eats on toast, in a salad or in a smoothie.
“I eat half an avocado daily,” she said. “It has monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats that are essential to a heart-healthy diet.”
In addition, she added, avocados are rich with vitamin and nutrients that can lower both blood pressure and inflammation.
