BAFS: Hansen features upgraded robotic catheter system
Hansen Medical highlighted its Sensei X robotic catheter system, which includes the Artisan Extend 3D catheter control and the CoHesion 3D visualization, at the 15th annual Boston Atrial Fibrillation Symposium (BAFS) last week.
Robert Mittendorff, MD, VP of marketing and business development, told Cardiovascular Business News that the new system hosts the new extended Artisan Extend catheter, which can potentially reduce procedure and fluoroscopy time. Comprised of steerable inner and outer guide catheters encompassing six-degrees of freedom, the Extend accommodates pre-approved mapping catheters that are 8F or smaller and have a minimum usable length of 115 cm.
Compared to the earlier iteration of the Artisan Control Catheter, the expanded navigational capabilities of the Artisan Extend include longer inner guide catheter reach for improved navigation in large atria, smaller bend radius, increased articulation angle and new single-port flush.
Bolstered by Hansen’s partnership with St. Jude Medical, the CoHesion 3D visualization module combines 3D catheter control with the visual guidance of 3D electroanatomical mapping. The CoHesion 3D module allows for the importation of the EnSite 3D map into the Sensei system's main navigation window; the localization of the catheter tip within the 3D EnSite geometry; and the navigation of the percutaneous catheter tip within the 3D map by the Artisan Extend control catheter.
In an electrophysiology or interventional lab, the Sensei X system involves a remote catheter manipulator and set-up joint, which can be fitted to most standard interventional tables, according to Mittendorff.
Hansen’s IntelliSense technology allows the clinician to measure the proximal force obtained by moving the catheter against tissue, Mittendorff said. “Force application and maps can be correlated to the quality of those maps, which is needed to navigate the catheter in tissue.”
