The trial results, presented Sept. 23 at the 22nd annual Transcatheter Cardiovascular Therapeutics (TCT) conference, proved that hypothermia—a combination of a rapidly infused iced saline solution and a cooling catheter placed into the vena cava inferior—reduced infarct size by 38 percent and safely reached temperatures of less than 35 degrees Celsius before reperfusion.
