Getting pragmatic
The spring season of cardiovascular conferences has a decidedly practical bent to it this year, which will be capped by a program that focuses on the tangible and achievable.
The Heart Rhythm Society wrapped up its scientific session this month in San Francisco with a program that was designed to help electrophysiologists stay current with the rapidly evolving technological and clinical advancements. Noteworthy this year was the inclusion of an all-day forum targeted at nurse practitioners and physician assistants in acknowledgment of the roles they play in the care of patients with atrial fibrillation.
The month will be bookended by the Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions (SCAI) scientific session in Las Vegas. Program planners have put together a leadership boot camp for cath lab directors and managers that will serve as a prelude to the conference. Planners said they conceived of the program as a way to provide guidance and support for physicians, administrators and staff striving for excellence in the cath lab.
In June, MedAxiom will host its annual Cardiovascular Service Line Symposium, which is cosponsored by Cardiovascular Business and the American College of Cardiology. The three-day symposium in Colorado offers presentations from leaders who share their strategies for success in the cath lab, including ways to meet today’s financial challenges.
New this year will be talks by cardiac surgeons, which may be a reflection of a culture shift in cardiology that recognizes the value of the “heart team” approach beyond transcatheter aortic valve replacement to other areas in patient care. Also, this year heralds an addition to the C-suite, the chief experience officer.
You will read more on that later. Stay tuned for coverage from SCAI.14 as well as articles before and during the Cardiovascular Service Line Symposium.
