AHA launches guidelines initiative
The American Heart Association (AHA) announced a new initiative focused on making guidelines available to physicians sooner and updating them more often.
At first, the Guideline Transformation and Optimization program will examine guidelines for U.S. patients who suffer from non-ST segment elevation acute coronary syndrome. The program will begin in the second half of this year, the AHA said in a news release.
The goals of the initiative include increasing the awareness of guidelines, developing them faster, recognizing providers who apply the guidelines on a consistent basis and providing patients with resources to follow the guidelines.
AstraZeneca provided the AHA with a three-year educational grant to launch the program.
“We develop our guidelines based on the most up-to-date quality research, and we know when patients are treated according to the guidelines, their outcomes are significantly improved,” Alice Jacobs, MD, an AHA past president, said in the news release. “We want clinicians and patients to know and understand the importance of following these recommendations.”
