International Academy of Cardiology honors cardiologists, professors at annual meeting
Eight cardiologists and professors received honors recently from the International Academy of Cardiology during the medical society’s annual scientific sessions in Boston.
The following people were honored:
- Yochi Birnbaum, MD, of the Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, won the Walter Bleifeld Memorial Award for distinguished work in the field of clinical research.
- Tadeusz Malinski, PhD, of Ohio University in Athens, won the Albrecht Fleckenstein Memorial Award for distinguished work in the field of basic research.
- Robert S. Rosenson, MD, of the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York, won the Jan J. Kellermann Memorial Award for distinguished work in the field of cardiovascular disease prevention.
- Brian D. Hoit, MD, of Case Western Reserve University and University Hospitals Case Medical Center in Cleveland, won the Hans-Peter Krayenbuehl Memorial Award for distinguished work in the field of research in cardiac function.
- Arthur L. Klatsky, MD, of Kaiser Permanente in Oakland, won the Melvin L. Marcus Memorial Award for distinguished contribution as a gifted teacher.
Further, the following three individuals won distinguished fellowship awards:
- Charles H. Hennekens, MD, DrPH, of the Charles E. Schmidt College of Medicine at Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton.
- Shahbudin H. Rahimtoola, MB, FRCP, MACC, FESC, of the University of Southern California in Los Angeles.
- Nanette K. Wenger, MD, of the Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta.
