Stentys trial to compare stent effectiveness in AMI patients

The APPOSITION II clinical study, designed to compare the effectiveness of the Stentys self-expanding stent and a conventional balloon-expandable stent in acute MI (AMI) patients, has enrolled its first participant, according to medical device provider Stentys.

Princeton, N.J.-based Stentys said the randomized trial will measure stent strut apposition three days post-procedure by means of optical coherence tomography (OCT).

Christian Spaulding, MD, PhD, chief of interventional cardiology at Cochin Hospital in Descartes University in Paris, said, "The first APPOSITION II case went extremely well. Three days later, thrombus and spasm had resolved, and the stent was perfectly apposed under OCT. This represents a breakthrough for successfully treating AMI.”
