Cleveland Clinic CEO, heart surgeon turns down Trump’s offer to run VA
Cleveland Clinic CEO Toby Cosgrove, a noted cardiac surgeon, turned down President-elect Donald Trump’s offer to become secretary of the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), Cleveland.com reports.
A spokeswoman told the website that Cosgrove seriously considered the offer, but he wanted to fulfill his commitment to the Cleveland Clinic.
Luis Quinonez, the CEO of IQ Management Services, also withdrew his name from consideration for the VA secretary job, according to Politico.
After Cosgrove and Quinonez made their decisions, Politico reported that Trump met on Jan. 3 with Lockheed Martin executive Leo Mackay Jr., who was a former deputy secretary of the VA from 2001 to 2003 under former President George W. Bush.
