FDA announces recall of multiple lots of Smiths Medical insulin syringes
The FDA has announced that Smiths Medical is recalling some of its insulin syringes due to inaccurate graduation markings on the syringe barrels. These markings could lead to the administration of an incorrect insulin dose, potentially leading to hyperglycemia or hypoglycemia.
This is a Class I recall, which means the issue could lead to serious injury or death.
In total, Smiths Medical is recalling 13 lots of its Jelco® Hypodermic Needle-Pro® Fixed Needle Insulin Syringe. Customers have been asked to quarantine and return all affected products.
“Markings skewed approximately 20 degrees upward have been identified,” according to the FDA.
