Florida cardiologist mired in Medicare scandal to sell his practice
Asad Qamar, MD, a cardiologist from Florida, is planning on selling his practice, the Wall Street Journal reports.
Qamar declared for bankruptcy in April after the federal government alleged that he illegally billed Medicare for inserting stents in patients that were not medically necessary. Qamar, who received more than $34 million in 2012 and 2013 for treating Medicare patients, has denied wrongdoing.
The Wall Street Journal cited court papers that showed Qamar’s lawyers have asked for an Oct. 7 deadline to submit bids for the Institute of Cardiovascular Excellence’s two locations in Florida.
