Valeant agrees to pay $54 million to settle charges
Valeant Pharmaceuticals agreed to pay $54 million to settle a civil lawsuit, Reuters reports. The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) announced on June 9 that the agreement between the government and Valeant pertains to allegations against Salix Pharmaceuticals, which Valeant acquired in April 2015.
The DOJ alleged that “Salix paid illegal kickbacks to induce doctors to prescribe seven of its products, causing the submission of thousands of fraudulent reimbursement claims to the U.S. government,” according to Reuters.
