Association of Black Cardiologists elects new president and chairman
The Association of Black Cardiologists (ABC) elected Felix Sogade, MD, as chairman of its board of directors and Barbara Hutchinson, MD, PhD, as the organization’s president.
Sogade, the CEO and president of the Georgia Arrhythmia Consultants and Research Institute, is board certified in clinical cardiac electrophysiology and cardiovascular diseases.
Hutchinson, the managing partner of Chesapeake Cardiac Care in Annapolis, Maryland, is board certified in cardiovascular disease and sleep medicine. She is also a fellow of the American College of Cardiology.
In 1974, 17 physicians founded the ABC as a nonprofit organization. Today, it includes more than 1,500 healthcare professionals, community health advocates, corporate members and institutional members.
The ABC’s mission is “to promote the prevention and treatment of cardiovascular disease, including stroke, in Blacks and other minorities and to achieve health equity for all through the elimination of disparities,” according to its website.
