Northwestern University announces $2.5 million expansion to its cardiovascular institute

Northwestern University’s Bluhm Cardiovascular Institute in Chicago has received a $2.5 million gift to expand to three of the system’s suburban hospitals, reports Crain’s Chicago Business.

The institute was originally launched by Patrick McCarthy, MD, on Valentine’s Day in 2005, and now the center is one of the largest heart programs in the Chicago area.

Expansion plans include creating six centers that will focus on cardiac conditions like heart disease and heart failure. Physicians are already being trained to take over operations in the new locations.
