Divya Kompella, MD

Cardiology fellow at the University of Kansas Medical Center

Long before she entered a cardiac ICU, Divya was organizing health camps for underserved communities, sponsoring children’s education across continents and leading environmental initiatives in her community. She is still only 26, but already she is a physician whose reach extends far beyond Kansas.

As a PGY-5 cardiology fellow, Dr. Kompella is known for a clinical approach that is both rigorous and deeply human. In complex cases, she pores over primary literature, convenes subspecialty perspectives and builds care plans that account for the full context of a patient’s life. Colleagues at every level—from nurses and APPs to residents and students—describe her as someone who makes them feel valued and equips them to grow.

What distinguishes Dr. Kompella on a national scale is the breadth of her vision and the depth of her dedication. Fluent in five languages, she serves as a critical bridge for patients and communities routinely left behind in cardiovascular care. Her decision to pursue general cardiology was intentional. She made the choice to maximize her reach across populations, languages and life circumstances.

Divya’s environmental advocacy is not separate from her cardiovascular work; it is an extension of it. She understands that clean air, safe communities and equitable access are upstream determinants of heart health.

In an era when the cardiology field is increasingly grappling to incorporate insights from social and environmental determinants, Dr. Kompella’s integrative worldview is not just admirable. It is essential and worthy of emulation.
