Maria Angelica Pabón Porras, MD

Cardiologist and instructor of medicine at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School, associate director of BWH’s cardiac imaging core lab
Dr. Pabón is redefining women’s cardiovascular health through exceptional research, clinical innovation and commitment to equity. At 38, she has established herself as a national leader in cardio-obstetrics and sex-specific cardiovascular mechanisms.
Further, as a principal investigator, Maria Angelica has secured more than $600,000 in competitive funding from such esteemed bodies as the Doris Duke Foundation and the American Heart Association. Her noteworthy contributions include influential investigations into coronary microvascular dysfunction and hypertensive disorders of pregnancy as heart failure precursors. She serves as Site-PI on the IMPACT-HT trial and Co-Investigator on NIH-funded CARDAMOM.
Maria Angelica’s 51 publications have been published in Circulation Research, JACC, JAMA Cardiology, European Heart Journal and Nature Medicine. Her works include landmark sex-difference analyses from major heart failure trials (DELIVER, FINEARTS-HF, GALACTIC-HF, FINE-HEART) and translational work on endothelial transcriptomics in preeclampsia. The latter won the inaugural Mass General Brigham-Inova Young Investigators Award.
At BWH’s cardiac imaging core lab, Dr. Pabón oversees multisite trial imaging while mentoring postdoctoral fellows. She co-founded a Spanish-speaking community cardiology clinic serving underserved populations, and she hosts a successful Spanish-language podcast on cardiology called “Miocardio.” She also serves as associate editor for ACC’s cardio-obstetrics educational module, and she authored the cardio-obstetrics chapter in the 16th edition of Fuster and Hurst’s The Heart, the field’s definitive textbook. Her awards include 2025 McKenzie Master Clinician Scholar, Resident Research Mentor Award and CVCT Future Trialist Fellowship.
Born in Colombia, Dr. Pabón exemplifies physician-investigator excellence bridging discovery science, clinical trials, education and equitable care delivery.
