Robert J. Fraser, MD

Director or co-director of the hypertrophic cardiomyopathy program, metro ambulatory clinics and echo lab at Allina Health Minneapolis Heart Institute

Most cardiologists under 40 are still building their clinical reputation. Robert J. Fraser, MD, is building an entire cardiovascular program—and doing so across several program components at once. The fact that AHMHI has entrusted him with three leadership roles—on top of his work as a senior cardiologist—reflects his rare combination of clinical distinction, operational fluency and institutional reliability.

Robert’s hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) subspecialty, developed through advanced training at the Cleveland Clinic, addresses one of cardiovascular medicine’s most chronically underserved patient populations. The condition is frequently misdiagnosed in general practice, and the patients who find their way to a dedicated program like the one Robert leads are often those for whom an accurate diagnosis is life-changing. He has built the leading destination for that care in the Twin Cities.

Dr. Fraser holds multiple board certifications across echocardiography, nuclear cardiology, and cardiac imaging, and contributes to national HCM education through the American Heart Association’s professional podcast series. His patients consistently rate him highly, a reflection of the communication clarity and compassionate engagement that peer publications have recognized with consistent “Top Doctor” designations.

At 38, Dr. Fraser has built the kind of program, reputation and clinical infrastructure that define a physician who isn’t just practicing cardiovascular medicine—he’s highly refining it.
