The team behind the new guidance also emphasized how important it still is for all adults to get vaccinated. 

When patients with post-TAVR infective endocarditis have a stroke, their risk of in-hospital mortality and all-cause mortality after one year both skyrocket. 

“Our findings are of great importance to the debate concerning blood pressure treatment," one researcher said. The team's analysis included data from nearly 345,000 patients.

The USPSTF said there is not enough evidence to recommend for or against taking supplements to prevent CVD or cancer. The two exceptions are vitamin E and beta-carotene, which the group warned should not be taken for that purpose. 

“What surprised me is that such small changes in electrolyte values have such dramatic effects,” one researcher said. 

Overall, one-year findings showed that there were no instances of mortality, endocarditis, major stent fractures or surgical intervention among patients who received the Harmony TPV.

Researchers in Germany explored data from more than 400 TAVR patients, sharing their findings in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology.
