Medtronic’s radial artery access portfolio gains CE mark approval
Medtronic has received CE mark approval for its radial artery access portfolio, which includes the Rist 079 Radial Access Guide Catheter and Rist Radial Access Selective Catheter.
Both devices were designed to assist with the introduction of interventional devices into a patient’s “peripheral, coronary and neuro vasculature.”
According to Medtronic, the Rist 079 Radial Access Guide Catheter is the first solution of its kind on the market, helping clinicians access the neuro vasculature through the radial artery instead of the transfemoral artery.
“We are committed to exploring ways to improve outcomes through complication reduction, reducing the cost of care and improving the overall patient experience,” Dan Volz, president of Medtronic’s neurovascular therapies business, said in a prepared statement. “We believe radial access is a meaningful addition to the clinical armamentarium. The CE Mark approval of the Rist radial access portfolio emphasizes our focus on driving innovation that gives clinicians who perform neurovascular procedures the broadest product portfolio so they can customize their care based on a patient's condition and anatomy.”
The American Heart Association (AHA) and other industry groups now recommend a radial-first approach when treating patients with acute coronary syndrome. Click here to read the AHA’s full scientific statement on this topic.
