The 10 best diets for your heart: Mediterranean, Ornish diets tie for the top spot
U.S. News & World Report has shared its annual list of the year’s best diets, with the Mediterranean diet coming out on top for the fifth year in a row. A separate ranking looked specifically at heart-healthy diets, and the Mediterranean and Ornish diets tied at No. 1.
The analysis is based on feedback from 27 different experts from the fields of nutrition, diabetes, heart health and weight loss.
“The influence of diet on health across the life span cannot be overstated, especially amidst the COVID-19 pandemic where diet quality can impact outcomes,” David Katz, MD, president of True Health Initiative and former director of the Yale Prevention Research Center, said in a prepared statement. “While the themes of eating well for long- and short-term health are well established, there are many variants that allow for 'personalizing' the benefits of great nutrition, and there is no better source for the careful curating of those options than the U.S. News Best Diets report.”
According to U.S. News & World Report, these are 2022’s top 10 heart-healthy diets:
1. Mediterranean Diet and Ornish Diet (tie)
3. DASH Diet
4. Flexitarian Diet, TLC Diet and Vegan Diet (tie)
