The voluntary recall includes quinapril HCl/hydrochlorothiazide tablets sold by Pfizer and authorized generics of that same medication. 

Researchers examined data from 39 different studies, focusing on mortality rates and adverse cardiovascular outcomes. 

These findings have “profound implications for patients and prescribing clinicians," one researcher said. 

Some of the study's findings even raised concerns that losartan could be harming these patients. 

The same benefit was not seen, however, when alcohol was consumed without food.
