American College of Cardiology names its next president and vice president
The American College of Cardiology (ACC) has announced its 2023-2024 slate of officers and trustees, including the group’s next president and vice president.
Interventional cardiologist B. Hadley Wilson, MD, executive vice chair for Atrium Health’s Sanger Heart & Vascular Institute in Charlotte, North Carolina, was selected to serve as ACC president in 2023-2024. Wilson’s interests in cardiology include STEMI care, stent technologies, structural valve disease, anticoagulation therapies and antiplatelet therapies.
Cathleen Biga, MSN, RN, president and CEO of Cardiovascular Management of Illinois, was selected to serve as ACC vice president in 2023-2024. She currently works with more than 100 separate providers throughout the Chicago area.
Other new officers and trustees included in this announcement included:
- Jeffrey T. Kuvin, MD (2023-2026)
- Roxana Mehran, MD (2023-2026)
- Sandra J. Lewis, MD (2023-2026)
- Akshay K. Khandelwal, MD (Finance Committee Chair-Elect 2023-2024; Chair 2024-2027)
Wilson and Biga, as well as the ACC’s other new officers and trustees, will transition into their new positions after ACC.23 in New Orleans.
“With the ACC preparing to embark on its next strategic plan and focusing on identifying new ways to leverage science, knowledge and innovation to truly transform cardiovascular care and improve heart health for all, I can't think of a better group of individuals to help move the College forward,” nominating committee chair and ACC Immediate Past President Dipti Itchhaporia, MD, said in a statement announcing the news. “These new officers and trustees bring critical leadership competencies, experiences and perspectives to their respective roles that will undoubtedly propel us forward and ensure we continue to be the professional home for the entire field of cardiology.”
