Roubin leaves Lenox Hill for Continuum

Interventional cardiologist Gary Roubin, MD, PhD, has joined Continuum Health Partners, the parent company for Beth Israel Medical Center, St. Luke’s and Roosevelt Hospitals and New York Eye and Ear Infirmary, all based in New York City, in the newly created position of director of cardiovascular services.

Roubin will lead all components of cardiac services throughout the Continuum hospitals’ cardiac service divisions, according to a release issued to Cardiovascular Business by the provider. Roubin comes to Continuum from Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City, where he was the chair of the department of cardiovascular medicine for the past eight years. In the six years prior to that position, he served as chief of endovascular services at Lenox Hill Heart and Vascular Institute. 

At Continuum, Roubin will contribute to efforts to bring together medical and surgical cardiac services throughout the hospitals. “Working collaboratively with his colleagues in the departments of medicine and surgery, Dr. Roubin will develop the plan for increased coordination of medical and surgical cardiac services across our campuses,” said Stanley Brezenoff, president and CEO of  Continuum.

Best known for his work in the field of carotid stenting, Roubin’s experience in treating coronary artery disease dates back to his pioneering the first FDA-approved coronary stent 25 years ago. Prior to coming to New York City, Roubin held chairs in cardiovascular medicine and radiology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham.

A native of Australia, Roubin earned his medical degree at the University of Queensland in 1975. He completed his residency at the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital and his fellowship at the Hallstrom Institute of Cardiology in Sydney.
