CMS releases 2014 Medicare inpatient prospective payment system rule

The proposed rule for inpatient hospital care, released by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) in late April, includes many issues of note for cardiovascular medicine.

While overall payments are scheduled to increase by only 0.8 percent, a technical change could increase payments for some cardiovascular services by 6 percent or more. In addition, CMS is proposing to delete some measures of cardiovascular performance and adding others. The rule also tweaks and expands the program that penalizes hospitals for high readmission rates. Get the details on CardioSource.org.
