Three skills doctors need to become effective executives
Physician leaders in hospitals and other healthcare-related fields must focus on operations management, people leadership and setting a business strategy, according to a Harvard Business Review article published online April 7.
Sachin H. Jain, MD, chief medical officer of the CareMore Health System, wrote that doctors who become executives need to use different skills than the ones they developed in clinical training and practice.
However, Jain suggested that physicians continue to maintain their clinical identity and balance the values of medicine with the realities of running a business.
