Cardiologist in Virginia faces misdemeanor for allegedly hitting female nursing director
Zia Roshandel, MD, a cardiologist from Virginia, was charged with misdemeanor assault and battery after he allegedly hit a female nursing director on her shoulder, the Culpeper Star-Exponent reports.
Irene C. D’Gama, 54, filed an official complaint alleging that Roshandel, 54, hit her during an argument inside her office last week. Roshandel works for Blue Ridge Cardiovascular Associates, while D’Gama is the director of surgical services at Novant Health University of Virginia Health System Culpeper Medical Center.
The newspaper reported that D’Gama filed an emergency protective order against Roshandel, who declined comment on the charge. Roshandel is due in court on Feb. 13. If convicted of a Class I misdemeanor, he could face up to 12 months in jail and/or a $2,500 fine, according to the report.
