GE expands patient monitoring reach with new acquisition

GE Healthcare has acquired Living Independently Group, the provider of elderly care monitoring system, QuietCare. Financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.

QuietCare is a passive activity monitoring system that uses wireless sensors to non-intrusively track the daily patterns of seniors' activities, according to GE. QuietCare alerts caregivers to behavioral changes that may signal potential health issues or emergency situations.

The acquisition, announced Tuesday, follows the September 2008 announcement that GE acquired a minority ownership stake in the New York City-based Living Independently Group and the two companies had agreed to market and co-develop the QuietCare technology globally.
