Newly accredited St. Joseph's Hospital Health Center, Syracuse N.Y., is the first hospital in New York and the second in the United States to accomplish accreditation in all three cardiovascular quality disciplines with the Accreditation for Cardiovascular Excellence (ACE): Diagnostic Cath, PCI and Carotid Artery Stenting (CAS), and is only one of two hospitals in New York State to achieve ACE accreditation distinction.
Validating the cardiovascular service line with ACE programs indicates an emphasis on quality and placing the patient at the center of its activities. “Our goal of accreditation was to reach the highest quality standard in our industry, which results in the highest quality of care to our patients,” said Alan J. Simons, MD, FACC, FSCAI, FACP, Medical Director of St. Joseph’s Cardiac Catheterization Lab.
St. Joseph’s Hospital Health Center is a facility that has evolved into a system of health care services. From a 15-bed hospital to a 431-bed hospital and health system that encompasses a 16-county service area, the integration of St. Joseph’s many programs delivers quality services to the community and provides them in a coordinated, continuous way. ACE releases the fourth of a five-part video symposium series this week titled: ACE Accreditation. E3: Expert External Review, presented by Bonnie H. Weiner, MD, MSEC, MBA, FSCAI, FACC, ACE Board Chair and Chief Medical Officer. Recorded at the 2013 Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions (SCAI) Scientific Interventions in Orlando, FL, Dr. Weiner declares that ACE is not just about accreditation. “The ACE E3, Expert External Evaluation, is a customizable process that ranges across a variety of environments. It’s beyond peer review and there are times when looking from the outside can be very constructive,” notes Dr. Weiner. Every review includes validation and a proactive, constructive approach and offers:
- Incorporation of Appropriate Use Criteria (AUC) into evaluations.
- Customizable reviews that focus on specific problems within the cardiovascular service line.
