AHA: 7 tips for shoveling snow that could save your heart
Shoveling snow might seem like a routine chore, but with bitter cold and heavy winds washing over the U.S. this month, seven simple guidelines could save your life.
Hazardous storms are advancing up the East Coast of the U.S. this week, and the American Heart Association published a concise list of recommendations for staying heart-safe while shoveling. Their tips include taking frequent breaks, using small shovels and consulting a doctor if you know you’re at increased risk for cardiovascular disease.
Avoiding alcohol and large meals before or soon after shoveling can also save the heart some stress, the AHA said, and, as always, it’s beneficial to familiarize yourself with the signs of a heart attack.
