Could the Apple Watch change the way we look at heart health?
The Apple Watch has been a fitness-minded gadget from its conception, but the new Series 3 addition will be able to track heart rate and possibly even alert users to abnormalities in their heart patterns, TIME reported.
The newest watch doesn’t track beats per minute quite like its predecessors—this one is equipped with built-in cellular, which will allow the device to track heart rate constantly (with service, of course). The watch can be set to alert users if they exceed their maximum heart rate or fall below their minimum, drawing their attention to issues like atrial fibrillation or sleep apnea.
The Series 3 can also track how users’ hearts recover after a workout.
Apple continues to work with heart experts at Stanford University to expand the heart-healthy abilities of its tech.
