Yusuf: Preventative cardiology must be a worldwide pursuit

Preventative cardiology must become a major intervention, according to the former president of World Heart Federation.

During a presentation at the Cardiological Society of India Conference on Friday, Salim Yusuf, DPhil, drew attention to the growing incidence rate of heart disease across Southeast Asia. He called for a preventative change in diet to address the health concern.

“High carbohydrate diet should be controlled as much as a fatty diet. Fruits will provide the best fillip,” Yusuf said.

He cited the American Heart Association’s current proactive intervention strategy and its positive results as an example to follow.
