Cardiologists earn the highest annual salary in 2 states

Cardiologist is the No. 1 highest-paying job in both New York and Florida, according to a new analysis of data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS).

BLS, a division of the U.S. Department of Labor, releases updated Occupational Employment and Wage Statistics estimates every April. The most recent findings, which cover U.S. salaries through May 2022, are now live on the BLS website. These are the same data that show cardiologists earn the highest annual salary in the United States.

The team at Business Insider took a closer look at the BLS data by comparing every job title that includes at least 1,000 people and breaking the numbers down by state.

In New York, cardiology is the No. 1 highest-paying job with an average annual salary of $348, 860. In Florida, cardiology is also the No. 1 highest-paying job; the average annual salary is $428,810.

The top-paying job came from healthcare for a majority of U.S. states, but there were certain exceptions. In Washington, DC, New Jersey and North Carolina, for example, chief executive ranked No. 1. In North Dakota and Vermont, on the other hand, financial manager was the highest-paying job.
