World War II veteran, influential cardiologist dies from coronavirus complications
L. Theodore Lawrence Jr., MD, who fought in World War II and went on to treat veterans as a cardiologist, died May 5 due to COVID-19 complications. He was 99 years old.
The Philadelphia Inquirer shared a detailed obituary of the distinguished veteran and physician, detailing his time in the Navy and seeing combat during World War II.
During his time as a cardiologist, Lawrence spent time at VA hospitals in Pennsylvania, Virginia and California.
“He wanted to work in the VA system to serve other veterans,” his son, Bill, told the Inquirer.
He also worked toward advancing cardiac catheterization procedures and helped author numerous medical textbooks.
