Novartis hosts competition to create novel mobile dolutions for heart failure caregivers

Novartis today announced the winners of its Mobile Health (mHealth) Challenge, a competition for developers and mobile technology start-ups to participate in creating mobile solutions that can positively impact the lives of caregivers and their loved ones with heart failure. The intensive two-day Challenge brought individuals and teams together to compete for cash prizes totaling $40,000.

Registry to collect data on youths’ heart-related deaths

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) are building a registry to track sudden deaths in young people with heart-related conditions and epilepsy.

With an annual death toll of about 440,000, preventable hospital errors now rank as the third leading cause of death in the U.S., a Leapfrog Group report stated. The Leapfrog Group is an independent nonprofit group whose mission is to promote patient safety. 

Should access to clinical data be expanded?

In order to ensure broader public access to clinical trial data, a system should be in place that provides the desired information while protecting patient privacy and the integrity of the data, according to a report published online Oct. 21 in the New England Journal of Medicine.
