Patient's family sues health system for negligence | Cardiologist accused of abuse | Woman says husband was misdiagnosed

The 55-year-old patient woke up experiencing chest pain one morning and an ambulance was called. He was dead just a few hours later. His family's lawsuit argued that delays in care, communication errors and other issues were directly responsible for his death.

The company told Cardiovascular Business it respectfully disagrees with the jury's decision and is evaluating all possible legal options going forward. The Association of Medical Device Reprocessors, meanwhile, celebrated the news.

He is accused of claiming to be a cardiologist from London and performing heart surgeries at a hospital in India.

The name and employer of a doctor accused of sexually and physically abusing multiple women is no longer being kept from the public. He faces a total of 20 charges, entering a plea of not guilty to all of them. 

“Clear signs of an aortic dissection” were missed in the patient's imaging findings after he presented to the emergency room, according to the lawsuit. He was diagnosed with acute pericarditis at the time and sent home—and then died four days later.

“He has taken my freedom, my joy,” the alleged victim said. “I’m scared to go out now. I’m scared to go to my doctor’s appointments now."

A Florida family is suing Mayo Clinic for allegedly performing a heart transplant without communicating certain risks associated with the donated organ. Mayo Clinic has pushed back against those claims, saying it acted appropriately every step of the way.
