CMS sets payment rate for HeartFlow’s FFR-CT solution in 2022 Medicare Physician Fee Schedule
CMS finalized the 2022 Medicare Physician Fee Schedule (MPFS) on Nov. 2, putting policies into place that will help guide patient care for the upcoming year. One of the many significant items to come out of that final rule was that the national payment rate for using HeartFlow’s fractional flow reserve CT (FFR-CT) solution, HeartFlow FFRct Analysis, in an office-based setting is $930.34.
“Having a national payment rate ensures that more Medicare patients with coronary artery disease (CAD) will have access to the highly accurate HeartFlow Analysis without having to worry about where they are receiving their care,” John H. Stevens, MD, HeartFlow president, CEO and co-founder, said in a prepared statement. “Approximately 50% of non-invasive cardiac imaging tests are performed in office-based settings, so there is exciting potential for this reimbursement decision to unlock new opportunity to further broaden adoption of our technology.”
This new national payment rate goes into effect on Jan. 1, 2022, along with the rest of the MPFS. The outpatient payment rate, meanwhile, is $950.50.
HeartFlow also recently shared its support of new chest pain guidelines published by the American Heart Association (AHA) and American College of Cardiology (ACC). Those guidelines highlighted the value the AHA and ACC see in FFR-CT as a tool for diagnosing CAD in the years ahead.
