CABG pioneer dies at age 86
W. Dudley Johnson, MD, a pioneer in coronary artery surgery, died Oct. 24 due to complications from a stroke, the New York Times reports. Johnson was 86.
During a career that lasted more than four decades, Johnson performed more than 8,500 heart bypass operations. His breakthrough in the late 1960s helped increase successful double, triple and quadruple bypass surgeries and led to widespread adoption of CABG procedures, according to the newspaper.
