City of Hope works toward diabetes cure with $50 million donation
City of Hope, a cancer treatment and research center in Duarte, California, has revealed plans to find a cure for type 1 diabetes in the next six years, according to a new article by Southern California Public Radio.
The organization has received $50 million in private funding, and the project will be led by Bart Roep, MD, the director of City of Hope’s research team.
"[It's] something we call personalized medicine or precision medicine, which is very much in vogue in cancer. That means we need to understand where patients differ and then tailor the immune therapies to their specific needs," Roep said.
