Washington cardiologist settles overbilling allegations for $300,000
Romeo Pavlic, MD, a cardiologist from Spokane, Washington, agreed to pay $300,000 to settle a lawsuit alleging he overbilled Medicare and Medicaid patients, the Spokesman-Review reports.
The HHS Office of Inspector General announced the settlement on March 14. As part of the settlement, Pavlic did not admit wrongdoing.
Court documents show that Pavlic billed for services not provided or tests not conducted, according to the newspaper. He continued the alleged billing practices after receiving a warning from federal regulators in December 2012.
The Spokesman-Review said $279,190 of the settlement would be paid to the federal government and the remaining $20,180 would be paid to the state of Washington.
