Dog beats the odds—and congenital heart defect—thanks to Illinois vets
Modern medicine has gone to all lengths to identify and correct congenital heart defects. One little dog in Thailand went halfway around the world to get her ticker fixed.
Nana, a 3-year-old chihuahua, traveled from Bangkok to the University of Illinois in Urbana with two Thai veterinarians. She was born with a heart defect called patent ductus arteriosus, which kills many dogs within a year.
Vets at the university performed surgery, and Nana is recovering well.
