Dr. Kirk N. Garratt Named Medical Director of Christiana Care’s Center for Heart & Vascular Health
(NEWARK, Del. – Jan. 12) Kirk N. Garratt, M.Sc, M.D, has been appointed medical director of Christiana Care Health System’s Center for Heart & Vascular Health. Dr. Garratt succeeds Tim Gardner, M.D., who retired after 12 years of dedication to Christiana Care and the Delaware community.

Nevin, M.D., MPH, president and CEO of Christiana Care. “He is deeply committed to preventing cardiovascular disease in our community through screenings and education, and to ensuring that patients at Christiana Care receive exceptional heart and vascular care that is safest and of the highest quality.”
Renown in the field of heart disease for his achievements in the clinical, academic and research aspects of interventional cardiology, Dr. Garratt joined Christiana Care in 2015. He served as associate service line leader of Christiana Care’s Heart and Vascular Service Line and was appointed in 2016 as Christiana Care’s John H. Ammon Chief of Cardiology.
Dr. Garratt came to Christiana Care from Northwell (formerly Northshore-LIJ) Health System where he served as director of cardiac intervention, cardiovascular research, the interventional cardiovascular fellowship program and associate chair of cardiovascular medicine. Prior to that Dr. Garratt spent 17 years at the Mayo Clinic and was a member of the team of physicians who first performed minimally invasive heart procedures there.
Dr. Garratt also serves as the president of The Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions, which promotes excellence in invasive and interventional cardiovascular medicine through education and representation, and the advancement of quality standards to enhance patient care.
Dr. Garratt also serves on medical advisory boards, task forces and steering committees and presents at conferences and symposiums worldwide. He has participated in clinical research for more than 30 years, authored more than 300 publications and is a reviewer and editor for multiple medical journals.
