The approval means Abiomed can stream patient data from its Impella heart pumps to remote monitoring platforms installed at more than 200 hospitals.

The peptide-derived drug, M3mP6 HLPN, prevents blood clots without increasing the risk of bleeding. 

Results of the trial, which included more than 11,000 patients, were published in the New England Journal of Medicine.
