ACE board members lead sessions in the Cath Lab Leadership Boot Camp at SCAI 2014 Scientific Sessions

The Accreditation for Cardiovascular Excellence (ACE) is proud to announce the participation of every ACE Board Member at the 2014 Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions (SCAI) Scientific Sessions in Las Vegas, NV, May 28-31, 2014. First, Charles E. Chambers, MD, FSCAI, President-Elect of SCAI and ACE Board Member, will kick-off SCAI's inaugural Cath Lab Leadership Boot Camp, a unique two-day educational event designed to address the needs of cath lab managers and directors and those who aspire to those roles.

"I wish I had had this 20 years ago-it's going to be great," Dr. Chambers said.

What inspired the Cath Lab Leadership Boot Camp? "We are taught in medical school and during fellowship how to do the intricacies of our procedures, but the challenges of leadership in the cath lab have not had good tutorials," Dr. Chambers said. To fill this gap, the Boot Camp will focus on the roles of cath lab leaders, maintaining a productive cath lab, conflict resolution, reporting outcomes to clinical databases, launching a research project, managing relationships with vendors, and maintaining budgets within the current era of cost containment.

In addition to his role as Program Director, Dr. Chambers will deliver two Boot Camp presentations: "The Cath Lab Leadership Boot Camp: Why Are You Here Today?" (Wed, May 28; 7:30-7:45 AM, Milano 5-6) and "Opportunities for the Future of the Boot Camp" (Wed, May 28;11:20-11:30 AM, Milano 5-6).

Gregory J. Dehmer, MD, FACC, FACP, FAHA, FSCAI, ACE Board Chair, will also present at the Cath Lab Leadership Boot Camp: "The Cath Lab Leader's Role in Cath Lab Reporting and Clinical Databases" (Wed, May 28; 10:00-10:15 AM, Milano 5-6).

Reflecting ACE's commitment to advancing quality standards within interventional cardiology, ACE board members will also serve prominent roles in the Quality Improvement Track of the SCAI Scientific Sessions.  Christopher J. White, MD, FACC, FSCAI, FAHA, FESC, ACE Board Member and Secretary, will serve as a panelist for the "Case Presentations and Panel Discussion: Real Life Ethical Dilemmas" talk during the "Ethics Symposium: Ethical Challenges in Interventional Medicine" session (Wed, May 28; 2:15-2:30 PM, Milano 3-4).

Dr. Dehmer will moderate the "Public Reporting" session of the Quality Improvement Track, during which he will present "The Train Has Left the Station: What's Out There Now and What's Coming" (Wed, May 28; 3:00-3:15 PM, Milano 3-4).

Bonnie H. Weiner, MD, FSCAI, ACE Board Member and CMO, will moderate the "Payment Reform and Optimizing Value in PCI" session within the Quality Improvement Track (Thurs, May 291:00-3:00 PM, Milano 3-4). Dr. Weiner will also present "Mortality as a Measure of PCI: Quality is the Gold Standard" during the "Performance Measures" session of the Quality Improvement Track (Thurs, May 294:32-4:42 PM, Milano 3-4).

ACE Board Vice Chair Ralph G. Brindis, MD, MPH, MACC, FSCAI, will moderate the "Late-Breaking Clinical Trials" session within the Quality Improvement Track (Fri, May 302:00-3:00 PM, Milano 3-4). Dr. Brindis will present the Keynote presentation, "Reflections of a Leader," during the invitation-only Emerging Leaders Mentorship (ELM) Session (Fri, May 304:45-5:15 PM, Neopolitan 3).
