Boston Scientific partners with Epic on data integration
Boston Scientific announced a collaboration with Epic, the largest U.S. electronic health record (EHR) vendor, to better integrate its cardiac ambulatory monitoring data into Aura, Epic’s specialty diagnostics suite.
Remote cardiac monitoring has exploded in recent years in electrophysiology (EP) thanks to the increasing use of implantable cardiac monitors and less expensive, more patient-friendly stick-on monitors. A major IT pain point has been integrating data from these monitors in to electronic EHRs for easier access and to create a complete patient record. However, this data is often siloed in a software system that may not be accessible by all clinicians and is not integrated with the EHR. Tracking this remote data often requires use of a third-party service or software platform.
“Collaborating with Epic to license its Aura platform adds a quick, easy EMR integration option for providers that complements our tailored, direct integration offerings,” Scott Olson, senior vice president and president of cardiac rhythm management and diagnostics for Boston Scientific, said in a statement. “This additional integration option will allow providers to connect to our ambulatory cardiac monitoring and diagnostics services while reducing pressure on their IT resources, simplifying their workflows and delivering a better provider experience.”
Boston Scientific said this partnership will help remove data integration barriers and allow providers to order cardiac diagnostic tests and receive results directly in Epic. By accessing the cardiac monitoring data directly from Aura, health systems will have faster access. It also will be a lower-cost option to integrate with Epic, rather than health system IT resources being used to create an integration patch.
Aura also helps eliminate the need for the manual order of tests and data entry, which enhances workflows for providers, enables data-driven care decisions and supports quicker treatment decisions for patients.
