‘Safe and effective’: Heart Failure Society of America urges patients to get COVID-19 vaccine
The Heart Failure Society of America (HFSA) has issued a statement on the importance of the newly approved COVID-19 vaccines, noting that “patients with heart failure should be confident that the vaccines will help to address the ongoing pandemic and help protect patients from the coronavirus.”
Thousands of patients, including President-elect Joe Biden and numerous other government leaders, have already received a COVID-19 vaccine. The HFSA noted that the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine is for individuals 16 years old or older. The Moderna/NIH vaccine, on the other hand, is targeted at individuals 18 years old and older.
“Heart failure healthcare professionals have been on the front lines battling COVID-19 and its consequences,” Nancy Albert, PhD, RN, president of the Heart Failure Society of America, said in a statement. “We have learned a lot about clinical care and infection control. Being vaccinated is an important step in prevention. We are now well positioned to let patients with heart failure know that both COVID-19 vaccines are safe and effective.”
