Workout supplement recalled after FDA finds ‘hidden ingredient’ known to raise blood pressure, cause heart problems
Houston-based Leader Formulas is recalling one lot of its Rapture Preworkout dietary supplement due to the presence of 1,3-dimethylamylamine (DMMA), an ingredient not listed on the product label.
DMMA, often referred to as “geranium extract,” has been linked to a heightened risk of high blood pressure. It is also known to lead to certain cardiovascular problems, including heart attack, shortness of breath and chest pain. Its presence was first identified by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) during a routine test.
This voluntary recall includes three different products—Rainbow Twist, Electric Lemonade and Berry Mojito—that were all part of lot 260327-4.
“Consumers who have purchased the Rapture Preworkout products which are being recalled should stop using the products and return to the place of purchase for a full refund,” according to Leader Formulas statement.

FDA previously warned public about issue
Back in May, the FDA issued an alert about the DMMA identified in these supplements. The agency warned consumers not to purchase these products due to the “hidden ingredient” and said that anyone who has experienced negative side effects after taking them should contact a physician right away. It also asked clinicians to report adverse events or side effects directly to the FDA.
