Startup combines food, tech for diabetes prevention
San Francisco-based startup PlateJoy, a personalized meal-planning company, will add weight tracking and virtual coaching to its services to treat individuals with prediabetes. The company hopes to prevent users from developing type 2 diabetes while lowering healthcare costs.
Users will receive meal plans that follow Centers for Disease Control guidelines. They can also have the ingredients for the meals sent to them the same day via Instacart, reports CNBC.com.
Some insurance plans and various employers will cover PlateJoy’s services. If covered, users will receive a free digital wireless scale and a FitBit for use. For patients whose insurance does not cover the system, it will cost $89 for a three-month membership or $119 for a six-month membership.
