Eleven local cardiologists to join John Muir Health’s medical foundation

Cor Cardiovascular Specialists, Inc., Arrhythmia Specialists, Inc., and Walter Savage, M.D., announced today that they will join John Muir Health’s medical foundation. They become the first cardiology groups and cardiologists to join the foundation. John Muir Health's Physician Network currently provides services to patients through more than 900 independent and foundation-based physicians.

“We are very pleased that 11 very talented local physicians have chosen to be more closely aligned with John Muir Health to serve patients in our community,” said Cal Knight, president and CEO of John Muir Health. “We are committed to a mixed-model physician network where independent physicians continue to be welcome and those who prefer being part of an integrated medical group have a local, community-based option.”

Cor Cardiovascular Specialists, Inc., based in Walnut Creek, was founded over 40 years ago and has eight board certified cardiologists, including Gene Voelkel, M.D., Michael Brown, M.D., Richard Chang, M.D., Andrew Dublin, M.D., Gary Gershony, M.D., Paul Ho, M.D., Perkin Shiu, M.D. and Hennessey Tseng, M.D. Drs. Chang, Dublin, and Gershony are also board certified in interventional cardiology.

“We have a long history in the community and with John Muir Health and are excited to become part of the medical foundation affiliated with the health system,” said Dr. Voelkel. “We look forward to continuing to provide our patients with the excellent care they expect for many years to come.”

Arrhythmia Specialists, Inc. is based in Concord. Susan Eisenberg, M.D. and Carleton Nibley, M.D. are board certified in cardiac electrophysiology and have been providing cardiac ablation and device-based rhythm management to the community since 1995.

“John Muir Health has established itself as a regional leader in electrophysiology, ” said Dr. Eisenberg. “We're incredibly excited to strengthen our relationship within the health system and partner with them in the continued growth of the Cardiac Rhythm Center.”

Walter Savage. M.D., practices in Brentwood and has been serving East Contra Costa County since 1989. He is board certified in cardiology. “John Muir Health is a regional leader in cardiovascular services,” said Dr. Savage. “I look forward to continuing to serve patients in East Contra Costa County and providing them with access to the outstanding care and service provided at John Muir Health.”

John Muir Health offers a full spectrum of cardiovascular services that span both its Walnut Creek and Concord campuses, with physicians located throughout Contra Costa and Solano counties. The health system’s cardiovascular programs and expert medical staff have earned numerous awards, including the highest level of accreditation from the Society of Chest Pain Centers and recognition from the American Heart Association and designation as STEMI Receiving Centers for severe heart attack patients.

John Muir Health also recently added a six-story patient care tower to its Concord campus. Many of John Muir Health’s cardiovascular services are housed in the new tower, which features five cardiac catheterization suites, 16 pre-operative and recovery beds, a dedicated 12-bed cardiovascular ICU (with 24 hour, real-time audio and video monitoring of patients), 49 monitored telemetry beds and a separate entrance.
